Yes, M.I.A. is a singer-songwriter, but with the release of her autobiography she will become a normal non-musical writer as well. The Sri Lankan rapper’s 192-page magnum opus, coming this October, will feature as-yet-unreleased stories collaged with over 300 images. We imagine it will be quite the visual feast.

Last weekend, my sister Safiya and I volunteered as photographers at the YOUR DIL Chicago netWork It For Education event, where journalist Ethan Casey was the guest speaker. I had a lot of fun interviewing Chef Suzy Singh earlier this week. She’s bubbly and driven (and she likes to give out hugs). The “Seven Questions With…” format is a great way to speak with interesting personalities because it’s casual and personal. This was the first interview I shot and edited entirely myself, and it was a great learning experience–one which I hope to repeat many times in the future.
